BSAC Explorer Mixed Gas CCR Diver (60m)

Image result for BSAC Explorer Mixed Gas CCR Diver (60m)

BSAC’s Explorer Mixed Gas CCR Diver (60m) course is a great way to extend your existing closed-circuit mixed gas diving skills to 60m.

You’ll learn to manage two stages underwater, to follow an efficient open-circuit bailout plan, if needed, that minimises your deco time. The course complements the Sport Mixed Gas CCR Diver (50m) course and students with suitable experience and skills can combine the two in one event.

I wanted to be able to dive deeper but with a clear head due to less narcosis.  I now have the skills to dive with mixed gas and two stage cylinders to explore deeper sites safely and also remember more of the dive.

- Mick Cook, Chorley SAC

Explorer Mixed Gas CCR Diver (60m) introduces a Sport Mixed Gas Diver (50m) to the use of a second bailout gas to support CCR diving using normoxic trimix with oxygen concentrations down to 18 per cent, to dive to depths of up to 60m.

To enrol on the Explorer Mixed Gas CCR Diver course you must be at least 18 years old and must have already successfully completed a Sport Mixed Gas CCR Diver (50m) course (or have equivalent certification from another recognised training agency). You must be able to demonstrate high proficiency diving a rebreather, including 30 CCR dives logged in the 30m to 50m range.

After completing an Explorer Mixed Gas CCR Diver (60m) course and consolidating your skills, your options for deeper expedition diving significantly expand.

  • You can develop your closed-circuit deeper diving skills to 80m as an Advanced Mixed Gas CCR Diver (80m).
  • You could develop specific skills to expand your diving interests further, including technical and logistical courses such as Compressor Operation and Mixed Gas Blender. Check out the Skill Development Courses (SDCs) you can get involved in.
  • You could sign up for BSAC’s Instructor Foundation Course (IFC) to become an Assistant Diving Instructor.
  • Already an Open Water Instructor, or above? You could hone your skills to become a Technical Instructor and join your regional team.
